March 27, 2008 · Leave a Comment

This is the press release for the next exhibition and some of the pieces!

A harmonious blend of subtle colour contrasts and simple forms comprise the latest contemporary jewellery designs by Deanna Gracie on display in the group exhibition ‘Home’. These four pendants from her Sanctuary series convey her deep love of home and land as she continues her exploration into the intriguing technique of married metals. The Sanctuary series can be viewed through all of April at ConneXion Gallery in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Spider Webs…

March 24, 2008 · 2 Comments

These beautiful spider webs appeared in all their glory in the garden today after watering. I raced inside to get the camera to capture these images before the water had a chance to dry! I’m sure these images and the memory of the prisms of coloured light dancing on the droplets of water will inspire jewellery designs some time in the future : – )

First painting in a longggggg time!

March 23, 2008 · 2 Comments

This is the first painting I have completed in a longggggg time and I’m very happy with the result. It has made me want to get back into painting again – never put off doing things that make you happy until tomorrow – isn’t that the philosophy!

‘My Cup Overfloweth’ has been created in acrylic and oil pastels on a small 115mm x 157mm board

I hope everyone is having a great weekend : – )

Since completing the first painting I was on a roll and thought I’d try a bigger version with different colours

Red Sky at Night

March 21, 2008 · 2 Comments

“Red Sky at Night’ pendant is made from 925 stg silver and garnet. It has been oxidised to highlight the feather texture. As a child I often had dreams of flying and now as an adult I love to depict these dreams into pieces of jewellery. This pendant was inspired by the idea of soaring above the heavens.

Baby Seahorse

March 19, 2008 · Leave a Comment

This is a baby seahorse I found on my beach walk last night. I felt sad when I found him and I wondered how far he had travelled and why he had ended up on this particular shore. He is perfectly preserved and I asked myself was I meant to find him?

I’m sure this little creature will inspire some jewellery designs soon : – )

New camera

March 15, 2008 · 2 Comments

I am on a learning curve with a new camera – this is one of the first jewellery images I have taken so far that I’m happy with. I found I was restricted with the camera I’ve had for years and wanted to try to achieve some more creative shots. Wish me luck! I’ll keep you posted but please don’t hold your breath as I can see it’s going to take some time to master!

Gorgeous and unique new amethyst ring

March 15, 2008 · 2 Comments

Here is a sterling silver and gold wide band ring I have just finished. The amethyst is set in 18ct gold. This ring really has presence and looks stunning on! Made from the hand and the heart – no two rings are ever exactly alike : – )

Tiepin

March 11, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Here is a fun steam train tiepin I finished recently for a client who wanted a surprise gift for her partner. The tiepin is made from three different metals – stg silver, copper with nickle silver wheels – I made matching cufflinks too : – )

I find commissions can be a great way to get out of the little creative ‘box’ I sometimes find myself in – it’s great to think outside the square!
