Aotearoa/Aroha
an exhibition of contemporary jewellery by Deanna Gracie
3rd – 9th November

BEAUTIFUL, NATURAL AND UNIQUE PIECES OF WEARABLE ART ON SHOW IN CLOISTERS GALLERY AT THE ARTS CENTRE OF CHRISTCHURCH

Precious objects created with gorgeous gemstones, sleek silver, glistening gold, richly coloured indigo blue titanium – combined with softly textured finishes and tactile surfaces feature in this solo exhibition by Deanna Gracie.

Deanna designs and creates her naturally New Zealand inspired contemporary jewellery from her home studio in the very beautiful and inspiring beachside suburb of Southshore, Christchurch. Made from her heart and with her hand no two pieces of jewellery are ever exactly the same.

“I find joy in the most simple of things; the perfect shape of a ginkgo leaf, the ebb and flow of the tide, patterns left on sand by wind and rain, the gentle call of a gull as it soars in the air. These experiences fill my soul to overflowing and I race to my studio to start the next piece,” says Deanna.

On the 3rd of November at 10.00am, Aotearoa/Aroha will be showcased at Cloisters Gallery, in the North Quad at the Arts Centre of Christchurch and will then run for one week only until the 9th November. Open daily 10am – 5pm.

Thanks for visiting and I hope to see you at the exhibition : – )

Featured Jewellery Design #22

October 9, 2008 · 2 Comments

I design and create jewellery for men too! My featured item this week is a tiepin made from sterling silver which has been oxidised and mokume-gane – an alloy of sterling silver and copper layers. This intriguing and labour intensive technique was invented by the Japanese. The random patterns produced from revealing the different layers depict the flow of water beautifully l I feel : – ) Entitled ‘River and Shore’ this tiepin is inspired by nature and is for sale for NZ$245+P&P : – ) This original and unique design is hand made by me in my studio here in Christchurch, New Zealand. Made by heart and hand no two pieces of jewellery are ever exactly the same : – )

Featured Jewellery Design #21 – Gorgeous and unique Ocean and Land Bracelet

October 4, 2008 · 4 Comments

SOLD

My featured design this week is ‘Ocean and Land’ bracelet. The bracelets I create are all made by hand, by me, in my studio in Christchurch, New Zealand – from start to finish using layering techniques to create a tactile 3D effect. I find myself subconsciously running my fingers over the contours of each piece whenever I wear my bracelet – perhaps as a form of meditation – who knows? Each component on the bracelets I create is different and is inspired by the colours and textures of the land and sea. Made by my heart and my hand no two bracelets are ever exactly the same.

Textures found in Nature….

October 4, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I had a play with my camera yesterday afternoon and took some images of some “found treasures” I have. I decided to concentrate solely on the contrasting textures of each of the objects.

The first one I’ve named “Within/Without” by Deanna Gracie

Then “Meteorite?” by Deanna Gracie

and ‘Back to Earth’ by Deanna Gracie
